We specialize in insurance restoration on residential homes.

High winds and powerful storms can drive moisture into any cracks and openings that are not sealed tightly. Waterproofing and sealing your home adds an additional layer of protection against both storms and sun. Sealants are very durable and will long outlive the lifespan of your roof, preventing water intrusion in your home is one of our specialities.

Caulking vs. Sealing

Many homeowners will attempt to caulk around the home on their own in order to save money. While this offers some protection, it’s best to get a professional grade sealant for the home. Sealants ensure protection and perform better success rates. A.J. Wells Roofing & Construction uses Vulkem sealant, which is incredibly durable. Vulkem makes up 90% of all sealants A.J. Wells Roofing & Construction uses on exterior roofing.

Functions of a Sealant

Sealant is applied to all the cracks and crevices around the home to prevent water intrusion in the roof and walls.

Properly sealing of the house exterior of the home, is vital to ensuring the quality and safety of your roof for years to come.

Flashing ensures water is flowing around your roof properly. Section R903.2 of the Florida Building Code states: “Flashings shall be installed in such a manner so as to prevent moisture entering the wall and roof through joints in copings, through moisture permeable materials, and at intersections with parapet walls and other penetrations through the roof plane.”

Because water can easily sneak into your home’s walls and will eventually lead to severe structural damage, it is important to make sure flashing is installed properly.

However, even if flashing is installed perfectly, tiny cracks and crevices can still be vulnerable to water penetration.  Sealant comes in handy for that extra layer of protection.

The Importance of Properly
Installed Sealant

Unfortunately, because it is the last job on a roofer’s to-do list, properly sealing the home does not get the attention it deserves.

At A.J. Wells Roofing & Construction, we have a separate team of roofers dedicated to solely applying the sealant.

Properly applying sealant is very detailed work. Behind the siding when it’s NOT done right, water can find its way in. Over time, this can lead to significant damage behind the siding of your home.

The repair for this damage is invasive and often times resulting in additional damage to the walls.

That’s why we make sure our team has the energy and focus to provide high quality service every step of the process and get it done right from the beginning.
